Wharfedale Hall along the riverside to the east of Spa Baths. Originally built as a hotel in 1850 after a new spring had been found in 1849 but the grandiose scheme failed almost immediately. The bankrupt stock was bought by a Mr Newhill who opened the Victoria & Albert Bath Hotel in 1851. However this only lasted a short time after which it was converted to a school and named Wharfedale College which lasted into the 20th Century when it reverted to a private dwelling. . cv Boston Spa - Beatrice M Scott |
