Ove Arup and Partners Limited were commissioned by Boston Spa Parish Council to investigate the feasibility and design options for locating a hydro turbine on the weir. The feasibility study was funded through the Rural Community Energy Fund (RCEF). The study included potential design options, an estimate of the costs to construct the hydro turbine, the likely cash returns linked to selling the energy to the grid, planning and environmental considerations and a high level review of potential funding options. Options for a hydro turbine on the western side of the weir, on land owned by Boston Spa Parish Council, were being considered.
