Boston Spa in Bloom

The aim of Boston Spa in Bloom is to enhance the visual appearance of the village through the installation and maintenance of plants and hanging baskets at prescribed locations throughout the village.
The group was formed in 2006 and since then it has:
   • planted over 20,000 daffodils on the approach roads into the village,
   • created 6 beds: one at Riverside, one at Deepdale, two at Clarendon Road and one each at the West and East ends of the High Street,
   • created and maintained 4 planters in the village centre and 4 troughs around the war memorial

Each summer it installs and maintains over 80 hanging brackets along the High Street. In the spring and autumn it plants out the beds, planters and troughs.
There is a committee of 12 people with over 80 volunteers who water the hanging baskets and planters throughout the summer. The committee meets nine times a year and amongst the things discussed are colour schemes, types and plant varieties, new planting projects and ways to enhance the appearance of the village and its centre.
The hanging baskets and plants are purchased from Leeds City Council Parks and Countryside Nursery. They are installed in late May and require watering six times a week until mid September. This is done by the team of volunteers who give a couple of hours in the evening, 4 times during the summer months.

Our thanks must also go to the local businesses and the Parish Council without whose sponsorship the venture would not be possible.

If you could spare a little time and would like to join the committee and/or the watering team please contact us, we will be delighted to hear from you.
